The story goes that on one cold evening a young mother, frozen with dread, was wrestling over what to feed her small children. So she phoned her Dad and voiced her concerns as what to do. He told her to fix a pot of "nail soup". She had no idea how to do that and began to inquire of the recipe. The father told her to first find a nail and set it aside, this she quickly did, then he said go to the garden and find any stray potato, carrot, radish or anything left from the harvest and add it to the pot. She did as her father told her to do but she was confused at what to do with the nail. The father's reply was that the nail was to simply get her started. This is the title of my newest drawing..."Nail Soup". It is in honor of those who survive tough times.
